   There is a rule in this country,(United Kingdom), that says that when someone is sentenced to a jail term they serve only half of it, i.e two years is one actual year behind bars. I would change that because the sentences are too lenient anyway, without reducing the time even further.

   I would change the law (constitution) that gives the people the right to bear arms, to say that the right to bear arms for personal protection shall not be infringed upon, but Congress may enact laws to set limits on the types of guns that can be owned by individuals and the states shall have the right to enact regulations to insure the public safety in regards to gun ownership.
   
   Most of the constitution has been subject to a broad interpretation. The gun amendment has been held to a very strict interpretation.
   
   Freedom of the press is protected. Just do not libel someone or yell fire in a building, or release any secret documents. If you do you will find out there is a whole new meaning for freedom of the press.

   I'd completely outlaw any kind of animal abuse, which would include raising and killing animals for food. If you want a burger, go find a cow and make it yourself. But I can't stand the thought of people torturing little animals for fun- some people just do it for recreation, and I hate it. I'd make the penalty much more severe for that kind of stuff.

   This may be adding a law, instead of changing one. However, I would have a law in the U.S. that set terms limits for members of the U.S. Congress.

   When I am King of the World, I will change the law in the USofA (the first Amendment to the Constitution) which allows people to spout stupid points of view.....
   
   In my re-write, all points of view (to be publicized) will have to be screened by me - or someone who I appoint - and if it's stupid, the writer/speaker will be given an opportunity to "reconsider"..... and, if they fail to do so, they will have their mouth duct-taped closed, and the words (that they intended to speak or write) will be erased......
   
   Please note.... this will ONLY apply to STUPID stuff..... otherwise, people will be allowed to be a goofy as they wish.....

   Some great funny answers here, but in all seriousness, I would repeal the recent American National Defense Authorization Act of 2012 (NDAA), which allows people to be held without trial, in contradiction to our constitution.

      What about innocent people wrongly convicted. Would you like to see them die, too? There are too many of these people in jail already with the guilty party still walking around free.

      I didn't say sex offenders I said pedophiles. Typically children under 12 don't lie about sexual abuse. The statistics are in favor of death. Everything in this world is about benifit outweighing bad.

   I would add a constitutional right to health, implying free health care. For the most part our health is out of our control. The US should get in line with the rest of the developed world.

    For some reason in Britain, if somebody breaks into your home you cannot remove the intruder by force, otherwise you risk prosecution. I would create a law empowering people to remove intruders from their homes by any means necessary.

       I agree, what's the difference between alcohol intoxication and a marijuana high? Marijuana should be classified as a medicinal herb and cautions advised just like St. John's Wort.

    I agree with KrisL and was surprised to not see more mention of the whole detained indefinitely without due process NDAA law that is in blatant disregard of the constitution

    I would rescind the rights of corporations to be protected by the Bill of Rights. Advertising and other corporate speech would no longer be protected by the first amendment. This would eliminate a situation where companies have freedom, but no accountability.

    I would rather:
    * see immigration laws actually enforced
    * have the large administrative branch under the executive branch stop making so many laws and repeal all the rules that people can go to prison for, like importing wood that was harvested per ecological standards but not per Indian law or jailed for catching shellfish at the wrong size.
